“Use these simple tips for cleaning your Zip Tops”

How to Clean and Care for Your Zip Top Containers

Zip Top containers were designed to be easy to use and easy to clean.

Zip Top containers were designed to be easy to use and easy to clean. The single-piece construction, with no glue or plastic sliders, make Zip Top the most durable and easy-to-use reusable container. When unzipped, Zip Top containers stay wide open and because the zipper doesn’t overlap in the corners (like all other zippers) food does not get stuck in any cracks or crevices.

If you are new to using silicone in the kitchen, here are some answers to some commonly asked questions and great tips for keeping your Zip Tops clean.

Are Zip Tops dishwasher safe?

Yes they are! These beauties are totally safe to put in the dishwasher - top or bottom rack. They were designed for the dishwasher by a mother of four who understands busy! All Zip Tops have large rounded corners for easy cleaning and flare out for draining. Most importantly, all Zip Top containers stay open for better cleaning and drying!

Can I hand wash my Zip Tops?

Absolutely! Zip Top containers have a wide opening and were designed to stay open, making them super easy to wash by hand. The wide opening also means they are easy to dry -- no need to prop open.

Made from thick, durable platinum silicone, Zip Tops won’t tear or wear. You can even turn them inside out (though there’s no need when cleaning them unlike other silicone bags!)

Will my Zip Top stain?

Most foods will not stain your Zip Top containers. There are a few foods, however, which can stain silicone such as tomato sauce, curries, watermelon, and cooked carrots.

Try rubbing with a baking soda and water mixture and let sit for 4 hours. Rinse well and then wash as usual.

Will Zip Top containers retain odors?

Food grade silicone is nonporous which inhibits bacterial growth and odors. However, some foods or dishwasher detergents can leave an odor.

For dishwasher detergents, it is best to choose varieties that do not contain essential oils, antibacterial agents or moisturizers. Gentler, more natural dishwasher soap/detergents work best to clean Zip Top containers, especially ones that are scent free.

If you do have an occasional odor lingering, here are a few tips to get them out:

  • Try rubbing with a baking soda and warm water mixture and let sit for 4 hours. Rinse well and then wash as usual.
  • You can also try a 50/50 vinegar and warm water mixture. Rinse well and then wash as usual.
  • You can also put some lemon water in your container (leaving one end open for steam) and pop it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. This can neutralize odors as well.

Proudly made in the USA, Zip Tops are completely free of BPA, lead, PVC, latex and phthalates.

Zip Top containers are built to last and can potentially be used thousands of times, replacing disposable plastic bags and containers which is a great way to reduce plastic waste!
