Zip Top containers were designed to be easy to use and easy to clean. The single-piece construction, with no glue or plastic sliders, make Zip Top the most durable and easy-to-use reusable container. When unzipped, Zip Top containers stay wide open and because the zipper doesn’t overlap in the corners (like all other zippers) food does not get stuck in any cracks or crevices.
If you are new to using silicone in the kitchen, here are some answers to some commonly asked questions and great tips for keeping your Zip Tops clean.
Are Zip Tops dishwasher safe?
Yes they are! These beauties are totally safe to put in the dishwasher - top or bottom rack. They were designed for the dishwasher by a mother of four who understands busy! All Zip Tops have large rounded corners for easy cleaning and flare out for draining. Most importantly, all Zip Top containers stay open for better cleaning and drying!
Can I hand wash my Zip Tops?
Absolutely! Zip Top containers have a wide opening and were designed to stay open, making them super easy to wash by hand. The wide opening also means they are easy to dry -- no need to prop open.
Made from thick, durable platinum silicone, Zip Tops won’t tear or wear. You can even turn them inside out (though there’s no need when cleaning them unlike other silicone bags!)
Will my Zip Top stain?
Most foods will not stain your Zip Top containers. There are a few foods, however, which can stain silicone such as tomato sauce, curries, watermelon, and cooked carrots.
Try rubbing with a baking soda and water mixture and let sit for 4 hours. Rinse well and then wash as usual.
Will Zip Top containers retain odors?
Food grade silicone is nonporous which inhibits bacterial growth and odors. However, some foods or dishwasher detergents can leave an odor.
For dishwasher detergents, it is best to choose varieties that do not contain essential oils, antibacterial agents or moisturizers. Gentler, more natural dishwasher soap/detergents work best to clean Zip Top containers, especially ones that are scent free.
If you do have an occasional odor lingering, here are a few tips to get them out:
Proudly made in the USA, Zip Tops are completely free of BPA, lead, PVC, latex and phthalates.
Zip Top containers are built to last and can potentially be used thousands of times, replacing disposable plastic bags and containers which is a great way to reduce plastic waste!
]]>Over the past several years, you’ve probably heard more and more people talking about being more eco-friendly and living a more sustainable life. What exactly does that mean?
Eco-friendly means “not harmful to the environment”. (Source)
Sustainability, according to McGill University, means “... meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Source)
In other words, in order to take better care of the environment, we need to do more on our part to “go green” and find better, safer alternatives for taking care of our planet.
Here are 8 simple things you can do to go green.
Plant a garden. It doesn’t need to be anything big and fancy. Start small. One tomato plant, one cucumber plant, a strawberry plant. Grow foods that you use on a regular basis. Herbs, like basil, are a great thing to add to your garden - and you can’t beat the fresh taste.
Use energy efficient light bulbs. Switch out the old incandescent light bulbs in your home for more energy efficient ones. Not only is it better for the environment, it’s also better for your wallet. (Source)
Reduce your plastic usage. Americans use 100 billion plastic bags a year. Use Zip Top to reduce the amount of plastic you use every year. Try packing your lunches and snacks using Zip Tops. They’re perfect for on-the-go.
Composting. Use your food and yard waste to create nutrient dense soil for your plants and garden. You can even create your own compost bin. (Source)
Buy local. Produce and other foods that are transported via trucks to grocery stores contribute to the carbon footprint. Buy local to reduce your carbon footprint and it’s a great way to support local farmers. (Source)
Opt for paperless billing. We live in a digital world, which makes it very simple to pay all your bills online. Save on paper bills and checks.
Travel. When travelling, whether by plane or car, opt for a reusable bag, like Zip Tops, to pack your snacks and other travel size items.

This Warm Spiced Salad has the perfect mix of fall and winter flavors. The really nice thing about salad, is that they’re super easy to switch out and substitute ingredients.
Check out the video and find the recipe below.
Let’s start with the seasoning.
In a bowl, place the brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, salt, cayenne and allspice. Using your hands or whisk, mix well—until evenly combined. Set aside.
Preheat the oven to 375°. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment. Set aside.
Using a knife, cut off the top and bottom of the squash. Next, peel the skin entirely, cut the squash down the middle—length wise. Using a spoon, scoop out the gourd pulp and seeds. Then, use the knife to cut 1/2’’ slices. Place the slices on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil and 1-2 tbsp of Master Spice Seasoning. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Once fork tender and golden-brown, remove for the oven to cool for 15 minutes.
While squash is baking, add coconut oil to a saute pan over medium heat. Once heated, add in remainder of Master Spice Seasoning and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Next, add in the walnuts and fold in the mixture until well coated. Remove from heat.
Wash and pat dry the kale and brussels sprout. Next, tear the leaves from the stems. Stack the leaves and roll them into a full round and give the leaves a rough chop. Set aside.
Using a knife, first, cut the brussels sprouts down the middle, length wise. Then, turning the flat side, thinly slice the brussels sprouts. Set aside.
Place the kale and brussels sprouts in a Zip Top container, top with a splash of fresh squeeze lemon juice, shake well and place in the fridge.
In a small pot, over medium heat, bring the vegetable stock to a full boil. Next, add in your quinoa/wild rice mix. Allow to reach a rolling boil, reduce heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook for 18-22 minutes until all liquid is fully absorbed. Remove from the burner and set aside to cool completely.
If using fresh pomegranate seeds: Use a paring knife to cut the pointed top off. Then, cut along the segment lines, crack open to expose the sections. Next, using the palm of your hand or a spoon, firmly knock the seeds loose.
Place the whole pomegranate seeds, olive oil, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, champagne balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, salt and pepper—into a blender. Blend on high until smooth in texture.
Assemble the salad—in your Zip Top with all components, topping with the vinaigrette. Seal the top, give it a toss and enjoy!
Chef note: Add a desired amount of sharp cheddar cheese, or your favorite cheese.
]]>Don’t wait for Thanksgiving day to start prepping dinner. You can start making your sides a day or two beforehand. Use Zip Tops to keep ingredients fresh for dishes like homemade stuffing and cranberry sauce. Convenient pour corners make it easy to mix and pour wet ingredients.
Here are a few of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes.
Tear bread into bite-size pieces (you should have about 12 cups) and place in a bowl. Cover the bowl with some type of covering, like a tea towel, and let it sit out 1-2 days. Stir the bread each day.
Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease 13 by 9-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon butter and set aside.
Drizzle olive oil over bite-size pieces of bread and stir until oil is well distributed. Place bread on a greased baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5 minutes. Toss the bread, then continue to toast until edges are lightly browned and crisped, about 5 minutes longer. Turn the oven off.
Melt 1-2 tablespoons butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Add celery, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until celery begins to soften, about 2 minutes minutes. Add onions and cook until vegetables are soft but not browned, about 3 - 5 minutes. Add cranberries and sage and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Reheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Add vegetable mixture to bread and toss with spatula until well combined. Drizzle broth over mixture and stir until well combined. Transfer the stuffing mixture to prepared 13 by 9-inch dish and spread into an even layer. Bake for 15 minutes. Stir with spatula, turning crisp edges into middle, and spread into even layer. Bake for another 15-25 minutes, until the top is crisp and brown. Stir in parsley, sprinkle with walnuts, and serve.
Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat until just simmering. Add shallot, mustard seeds, and salt; cook, stirring occasionally, until shallot has softened, 1 to 2 minutes.
Add water, vinegar, and sugar. Increase heat to high and bring to simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add 1 1⁄2 cups cranberries, orange zest, oranges, and jalapenos; return to simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until cranberries have almost completely broken down and mixture has thickened, about 15 minutes.
Add remaining 1 1⁄2 cups cranberries; continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until just beginning to burst, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl and cool for at least 1 hour before serving. (Sauce can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.)
When you’re finished with Thanksgiving dinner, Zip Top containers are perfect for storing your leftovers. They’re freezer safe, and when you’re ready for more, simply pop them into the microwave for an easy meal.

]]>Our Chef Elise has created these amazing Chocolate Mendiants for your Halloween fun! Check out the video below.
*For vegan mendiants, use vegan chocolate bars
Break up or chop the entirety of each bar, into bite-sized pieces. If using chocolate chips, measure out 3/4 c of each. Next, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a reusable baking mat. Set aside.
Fill a medium saucepan 1/2 of the way full with water. Bring the pot to a boil. Once rapidly boiling, remove from heat. Next, place a medium bowl over the top of the simmering pot, creating a pseudo double-boiler. Drop in the chocolate and melt it down until smooth, using a rubber spatula to stir the chocolate. This process should take about 5-7 minutes. Carefully remove from heat. Then, using a tablespoon or Zip Top container, dollop a small circle onto the prepared sheet. Flavor and decorating variations below.
In a mortar and pastel—or using a clean, heavy-bottom object—crush the raspberries into a fine powder. Next, use the rind peeler to create small curls or zester and gather zest. Set aside.
Atop of each mendiant place a dusting of the raspberry powder, a couple of lemon curls, a few almonds slivers and finish with a sprinkle of the dried lemon verbena.
Take 1 cookie rectangle and crush into crumbles, using your hands. Cover half of the mendiant with the graham cracker crumbles. Then, place 1-3 mini marshmallows atop each mendiant.
**Note: Level up this variation by placing the mini marshmallows on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, on LOW broil, place them into the oven for 15-30 seconds. The marshmallows will be lightly toasted. Allow them to cool and place atop the mendiant.
Break off the top two rounds of the pretzel, repeat this to the desired quantity. After the mendiants have been placed, allow them to set for 5 minutes before adding the pretzel pieces (“spider legs”).
Place the caramels and milk into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds, if the caramels are melted, use a fork or whisk to mix until smooth. If the caramels need to be heated further, place back in the microwave for 15 second intervals until fully melted. Allow the caramels to cool for 1 minute. While the caramels are cooling, place the curved pieces of pretzel on both sides of each mendiant to make the “legs”. Next, use a fork or whisk and drizzle the caramel around and atop the mendiants to create the “web”. Finish with the dried cranberries for the “cranberry creepy eyes”.
Rinse well and pat the strawberries dry. Next, cut the strawberries in half and thinly slice the halves. To create the wings, place 2 slices of strawberries on either side of each mendiant.
Mix the coconut yogurt until smooth. Make 2 dollops in the bottom portion of the mendiant (about 1/8 tsp). Using a toothpick, pull the yogurt dollop to form a “fang” in the chocolate. Lastly, crumble the granola into small clumps for the "bat eyes".
Place in the refrigerator to set and harden for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Serve and enjoy!

In 1934, Farmer’s Markets began in Los Angeles as a way for farmers to sell their agriculture fresh to local customers. Today, there are two million farms in the United States. Thanks to those farms and the hard working farmers, we can shop and eat delicious fresh herbs, produce, meat and more all year round.
Storing and keeping your herbs, produce, and meat is easy with Zip Top. Store your fresh herbs and veggies in an airtight Zip Top to keep them fresh longer. Since Zip Tops are freezer safe, you can even store your meat in the freezer.

Zip Top received the award for Design for Society/Design for Environment. This follows our mission to provide a safe alternative to replace single-use plastics for everyday use. Thank you European Design Award!!
]]>When founder, Rebecca Finell, set out on a mission to provide an alternative to single-use plastics, quality and safety were her top priorities. She started with the goal to use 100% pure platinum silicone and not only manufacture, but also source the raw material right here in the USA.
Being Made in the USA was always a dream of hers and with Zip Top, after 2+ years of designing, testing and engineering, that became a reality. Zip Top takes pride in being the only silicone food container made in the USA as more and more manufacturers look to foreign countries for their extreme reduction in labor costs and quality.
Did you know?
In 1990, 50% of clothing was made in the USA whereas only 3% is in 2020 (according to the United States Bureau of Labor).
We want to continually contribute to the American economy and are excited to be a small part of the great legacy of American innovation. Zip Top containers have won numerous international innovation and design awards since our launch. We use 100% pure platinum silicone in a single piece construction - no glue, no seams, and best of all no fillers! Zip Top is the first container in the world that stands up, stays open and zips shut with several patents across the globe.
Zip Top is staying true to our mission to provide a safe alternative to single-use plastics and we are proud to be able to export quality, American-made goods worldwide.

PRO TIP: You can use a dry erase marker to write on Zip Tops!
Keep your office space organized by storing pens, paperclips, cords, and more.
Use Zip Top bags to hold party favors for birthday parties or wedding or baby showers. Instead of gift boxes and wrapping paper, use a Zip Top as a cute, eco-friendly option for gift giving. They are also wonderful for sharing baked goods.
Are you a collector or shells, rocks, coins, or something else? Use Zip Top containers to hold your precious collection.
We could go on forever, but we will stop there. Please let us know how you use your Zip Top containers!
